What happened?
Big 30
Well I had been saying I was going to quite running the streets and
stuff at age 30. I figured that was over the hill and I would need to
really get it together by then. I had tried several failed relationships
to perhaps try to settle me down but these things were just unable to
stop me.
My Solution
Instead of stopping the party train, I found a different solution. It
seemed as I was getting older my hangovers and ability to function on
and off the job seemed to be getting worse. I was unable to drink like
I wanted to and still maintain a stable life style. Plus as the date
approached for the big 30 I needed some excitement in order to give me
some great thrills for the end of the party line. I needed something
a bit more powerful!
Methamphetamine
Crank! That was the answer. It seemed to solve several of my problems
at once. I could work like a dog and still drink like I wanted and the
lifestyle added plenty of thrills to my seemingly dull late 20’s.
And it seemed that everybody was doing it! No big deal—It was the
drug of choice! My apartment complex was one big tweaking family!
Survival
This period of time I called the “summer of drugs.” Except
it turned into a few years. What seemed like a really great time at first
was turning into a survival game. I knew I was going downhill fast but
seemed unable to do anything about it. Until somebody special came along…
Children
Our most precious gift. When I found out I was going to have a child
I kinda freaked out. I had no idea how I was going to raise I child and
be a junkie at the same time so I knew something was going to have to
give. By the time she was born I was off the hard drugs but was still
drinking like a fish. It was not until after several months of being
completely broke and unable to support my family that I finally stumbled
into a 12-step program. It was by their advice and direction that I finally
learned how to stop.
